Ken Shields is a partner at Hamilton Partners, based in the Salt Lake City office, where he focuses on multifamily and office design, construction, operations, and acquisitions.
Before joining Hamilton Partners in 2004, Ken worked with a local Utah developer, where he was involved in the design and construction of new apartment communities and managed a portfolio of 2,500 multifamily units across the Wasatch Front. He also played a key role in the development and management of Broadway Centre, one of the first mixed-use office complexes in downtown Salt Lake City.
At Hamilton Partners, Ken has overseen the management and renovation of many of the firm’s Salt Lake City holdings, including the historic Newhouse and Boston Buildings—twin towers originally built in 1911. His project work includes the California Business Park industrial building, an office building for the Division of Child and Family Services, and the East Village Multifamily Apartments.
In 2008, Hamilton Partners began construction of 222 Main, one of Utah’s premier Class A office towers. 222 Main completed construction in 2009, Ken was instrumental in the design, construction, leasing, and management of the building. 222 Main was the first LEED Gold-certified Core and Shell (CS) building in Salt Lake City and helped attract a major Wall Street firm to the city’s downtown core. In 2023, Ken completed construction of Seven Skies Apartments in Sandy, Utah—a transit-oriented, mixed-use community that includes a 512-stall UTA-owned parking garage, 305 multifamily units, and 7,500 square feet of retail space.
In 2020, Hamilton Partners partnered with a local development firm and won UTA’s request for proposal (RFP) to develop the Clearfield FrontRunner Station—the largest transit-oriented development in Utah. Once completed, the 56-acre development will consist of up to 1,000 multifamily units, up to 600,000 square feet of office, over 65,000 square feet of retail, infrastructure for UTA’s commuter rail, a public park and a private plaza. Ken collaborated with the team to create the Master Development Plan, which was adopted by Clearfield City. The city recently completed horizontal infrastructure improvements for the development. He is now working with the team to construct the first phase of apartments and retail at Clearfield Station.
Ken is committed to developing high-quality, mixed-use communities that enhance neighborhoods and create vibrant places to live, work, and play.
